LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - LG&E is getting on board with plans to celebrate the Belle of Louisville's 100th birthday.

The utility company will be the main sponsor of the Centennial Festival of Riverboats beginning October 18. Although funding cuts will mean some adjustments will have to be made, organizers said the festival will feature great food, music, bourbon and fireworks.

The six-day event will feature six riverboats, all to celebrate the Belle's mighty feat.

"These riverboats lasted generally three to five years," said Waterfront Development Corporation President David Karem, "so to have the Belle of Louisville be here come October 18 for 100 years is an unbelievable statement. That is why she's a national historic landmark, likely the oldest operating steamboat in America and possibly the second oldest in the world."
