LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - After five years of abandon, the rides at Kentucky Kingdom are up and running and ready for the crowds this Memorial Day Weekend.
The park is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. Officials expect as many as 15,000 visitors on opening day alone.
Park enthusiasts can expect a few surprises, as seven new rides have been installed since Kentucky Kingdom's closing. The Hurricane Bay water park has expanded, as well, and now offers free sunscreen.
The new attractions include a 12-story drop water slide called Deep Water Dive and the Lightning Run coaster that gets the blood pumping with a 100-foot, 80-degree drop right out of the gates.
Coming up tonight on WAVE 3 News at 6, reporter Natalia Martinez takes us inside the park and checks to see how the first day of operation went.
Kentucky Kingdom is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hurricane Bay opens at the same time as the rest of the park, but closes at 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
