LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – All lanes of Interstate 65 reopened several hours after a fiery chain reaction crash shut down the entire northbound side of the roadway a half-mile south of the Gene Snyder Freeway/I-265 in Jefferson County on Wednesday, according to a MetroSafe dispatcher.
According to Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, the driver of a minivan rear-ended up a pickup truck, swerved and was rear-ended by a semi. The minivan caught on fire, and the flames spread to the semi. The minivan's driver was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.
The accident happened around 7:56 a.m. on Wednesday.
The accident is considered a hazmat situation because the semi leaked fuel after the crash. Both the semi and the minivan were destroyed.
