2 dead after car hits tree, catches fire

WASHINGTON COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Two people in Washington County died after their car hit a tree and caught fire.

According to a media release, police were dispatched to a car on fire at 3:59 a.m. on July 1. Crews found a 1995 Ford Ranger on State Road 160, about five miles outside of Salem.

The Ford ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree causing it to catch fire. Two people in the car were pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.

The crash is under investigation and the victim's names have not been released.
