ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown is investigating a commercial vehicle accident that temporarily closed Interstate 65 north near the 96 mile marker in Hardin County on Friday.
According to police, a Swift tractor and trailer operated by Ernie Jacobson was traveling northbound around 3:02 p.m. on Nov. 28 when, for undetermined reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and hit a rock wall about two miles south of KY 313. Jacobson managed to escape the vehicle before it caught fire. He was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
The vehicle on fire had a placard on it indicating a flammable cargo. Troopers closed the interstate as a precaution because they were unsure what the cargo was. The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about an hour.
