LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - With three ACC football teams ranked ahead of Louisville, the Cards' dreams of an Orange Bowl appearance are pretty much dead, but they could still wind up bowling in the Sunshine State for a second straight year.
Cards' fans traveled well to Orlando to watch UofL thump Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl last December, and the idea of a return engagement there was lighting up local sports radio Wednesday night.
That game will be played on Dec. 29, and FOX Sports has the Cards slated to play in it against Kansas State.
Another popular projection is the Music City Bowl, just a couple hours down Interstate 65 to Nashville. That game is set for Dec. 30, and would bring an SEC opponent. Some experts have Texas A&M landing there; others have Auburn.
Either way, we all remember what happened the last time Louisville faced an SEC squad in a bowl game. (HINT: UofL owned Florida in the Sugar Bowl two years ago)
The Sun Bowl (Dec. 27) in El Paso, Texas, the Citrus Bowl (Jan. 1) in Orlando, Fla., and the TaxSlayer Bowl (Jan. 2) in Jacksonville, Fla., also are trendy picks for UofL among college football writers.
The full bowl-game schedule will be announced Sunday.
