2 accused of assaulting JC Penney security guard arrested

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Two people accused of assaulting a loss prevention officer inside the Saint Matthews Mall were taken into custody.

St. Matthews Police said Eden Araque, 19, and Hunter C. Thompson Ackerman, 18, were arrested Monday.

Surveillance video showed Araque, Ackerman and a third man entering the JC Penney at Matt St. Matthews around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24. Officers said they stole about $400 in clothing and other items. When a security guard confronted them, two of the suspects attacked the store employee and fled.

Emergency crews took the JC Penney security guard to the hospital, where she was treated for a broken nose and minor injuries to her arms and legs.

Police are still searching for the third suspect described as a black man between 18 and 25 years old. He was wearing a Carolina blue Nike hooded sweatshirt and black or dark colored pants at the time of the assault.
