LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For as busy as Bank Street is in the Portland neighborhood, things are usually quiet at a two-story white house.

Police got there after a call about a "person down."

"You see people come and go but not too often," a neighbor, Josh Baker, said.

But that changed Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m.

"Sirens," another neighbor, Gary Lindsey, recalled. "That's when I knew something was going on."

Police kicked in the back door. Inside, they made a deadly discovery: the body of a white man who had suffered some sort of trauma. Police were quick to call foul play.

"Real sad, around this neighborhood, anyway," Lindsey said.

Lindsey knows the middle-aged man who is now dead. He would wave every time he saw him out. Lindsey

told us his neighbor had recently built his back deck. Lindsey never thought he'd be murdered, but did think it was strange that his truck was gone.

"We ain't seen his truck since Thursday in the back yard," he said. "We noticed it's been gone."

Police couldn't tell us who called them or how the man was killed. They talked to neighbors hoping for clues. But hours later they had no suspects.

"I get scared sometimes," Baker said. "I've got lock the door at night and just hope everything's OK."

This is the third homicide inside city limits so far this year. The thought of a murder happening a few doors down will force Lindsey to turn his home alarm on.

"No matter what, they'll be set when we go to bed for sure knowing that this has happened," Lindsey said.

Police said they're going to wait for an autopsy before telling us how the man was killed. The homicide unit is hoping someone will come forward with a tip.
