LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A father and son have been arrested for allegedly assaulting the Doss High School basketball coach after a weekend game, St. Matthews police said Tuesday.

After a loss at Trinity High School on Saturday night, Doss coach Tony Williams, was approached by Demetrius Franklin, 48, a parent of one of the Doss basketball players, according to the arrest report. Franklin exchanged words with Williams as the coach was walking to the locker room, and the confrontation quickly became physical, the report said.

Williams told police that Franklin started striking him in the face with his fist. Then, according to the report, Williams said he was struck by Daelyn Franklin, 18, a player on the team.

The Franklins told police that they were assaulted by Williams. In a police report, the elder Franklin said Williams started to mouth off to him and his family after the game.

Daelyn Franklin told police that the fight was about to turn physical when people in the crowd restrained his father as well as Williams. That's when he says Williams reached over the crowd and began striking his father, who was restrained. The report states Daelyn told police that he grabbed one of Williams' arms to prevent him from hitting his father.

The report goes on to state that's when Williams allegedly struck Daelyn on the right side of his face.

On Tuesday, the father and son were arrested together at the Hall of Justice in downtown Louisville. Police say they were there attempting to take out a warrant on Williams. The Franklins told police they were assaulted by the coach.

Witnesses said Williams was getting hit by the Doss parent. Williams and others trying to stop the fight tumbled out a set of double doors that exit the Trinity gym and into Shelbyville Road.

Mike Guetig, the public address announcer at Trinity said the game had ended when the commotion started.

"There was this big fight going on," recalled Guetig, "fists flying and people falling over chairs and knocking the door open and tumbling outside."

Guetig used the PA system to call for the school's security. He said officers got there fast and broke the fight up.

The Trinity team was already in the locker room when the incident happened. Trinity High School was not involved in any way other than the alleged incident happened on their property. Jefferson County Public School officials say they will cooperate with the investigation.

Williams, a former University of Louisville basketball player, works as a security guard at Doss High School.
