1 dead, 2 injured in Jennings County crash

NORTH VERNON, IN (WAVE) - A Seymour man was killed and two people from North Vernon were injured in a head-on crash late Tuesday afternoon in Jennings County.

Indiana State Police said a Toyota SUV was traveling west on US 50 around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and slammed into a 1998 Chevy truck head-on. The SUV went airborne and landed on top of the pickup truck, trapping everyone inside both vehicles.

The driver of the SUV, Michael D. Healy, 25, of Seymour, was rushed to Jennings Hospital after he was extricated from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck, Steve L. Luedeman, 61, of North Vernon, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital after he was removed from his vehicle. His condition is unknown.

A passenger in the truck, Shacey M. Root, 17, of North Vernon, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Another driver told police the Toyota passed several vehicles moments before the crash.

Indiana State Police are investigating the crash.
