17-year-old charged in connection to UK student's death

LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) – A 17-year-old is facing charges of murder, robbery and tampering with physical evidence in connection to the shooting death of a University of Kentucky student.

Lexington police said the juvenile was taken into custody Monday, four days after Jonathan Krueger was shot during a robbery in the 400 block of East Maxwell Street. Krueger was transported to UK Chandler Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Two other suspects, Efrain Diaz, 20, and Justin Smith, 18, were taken into custody within less than 24 hours of the shooting.

Diaz is charged with murder and robbery. Smith is charged with murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and fleeing and evading in connection with the shooting.

Police said they do not anticipate any additional arrests in the case.
