LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The name of the man who was shot dead by a police officer was released Sunday.
Deng Manyoun, 35, died following Saturday's confrontation in Old Louisville.
Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad said Manyoun was shot near Fourth and Oak Streets after he swung a metal flag pole at the officer.
Officers were called to an area near Fourth and Oak streets on a report of a woman being assaulted.
Investigators said they think Manyoun was homeless. His last known address was in the 1200 block of Brook Street.
WAVE 3 News spoke with someone from Catholic Charities, who said Manyoun came to the U.S. 14 years ago as a refugee from Sudan.
He first lived in Nashville, then moved to Louisville in 2008.
Conrad did not provide details on the condition of the woman who was allegedly assaulted, but he confirmed the officer will be placed on administrative leave as the incident is investigated, which is standard for such incidents.
