Kentucky Opera general director killed in car crash
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky Opera says David Roth, the General Director of the organization, unexpectedly died on July 19.
According to a statement released by Kentucky Opera, Roth, 56, was returning from a business trip to Des Moines and from visiting family in Wisconsin and died after his car ran off the road.
Illinois State Police said Roth's car was eastbound on Interstate 74 just before 9 p.m. CDT in Piatt County near Monticello. Troopers said the 2014 Hyundai Elantra went off the right side of the road, into a ditch, became airborne, landed back in the right ditch and struck a tree head on. Roth, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"David was a positive and powerful presence in the lives of many of us. He will be deeply missed," said Christy Kramer, past president of Kentucky Opera. "We ask they you extend your heartfelt condolences to his family and friends whole loved him dearly."
Roth had been general director of Kentucky Opera since 2006. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
