LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman was given a citation to appear in court for allegedly leaving a child in a vehicle while drinking on the patio of a pizza restaurant.
Nicole Urso, 44, left an eighteen-month-old child in a vehicle while patronizing Sal's Pizza on Lyndon Lane on April 12, according to a criminal summons.
Police said Urso left the vehicle running and rolled a window down while the child was seated in an unsecured car seat in the back seat of the vehicle. When Urso entered the business, she asked a fellow customer to "keep an eye" on the vehicle while Urso used the bathroom, according to the report. She then allegedly ordered an alcoholic drink and a pizza.
Police were called to the business and when they arrived, they saw the vehicle still running with the window rolled down and the child seated in the back seat. The child was alone, according to the report, and Urso was seated on the restaurant's deck approximately 30 feet from where the vehicle was parked. Police noted she was smoking a cigarette and drinking alcohol at the time of their arrival.
According to the report, Urso was a close friend of the child's mother and was responsible for the child's care at the time of the alleged incident. Police said they notified Child Protective Services of the incident.
