GEORGETOWN, KY (WAVE) - A pilot trying to make an emergency landing at a Scott County, KY, airport crashed the small aircraft, injuring all four people on board, officials said.
WLEX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, reported that neighbors said they heard the crash around 9 p.m. Saturday night and saw heavy smoke in the area of Leesburg Road, near the Georgetown-Scott County Regional Airport.
Three of the injured were flown by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries, while the fourth was transported in an ambulance, the county's emergency management agency said.
It was not clear why the plane was attempting an emergency landing or what caused the crash, WLEX reported.
Federal investigators were scheduled to arrive on Sunday.
