LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two people have been reported injured after a truck vs. train accident in Buechel.

The accident was reported at 2:54 p.m. at Crawford Ave. and Buechel Ave.

There are no gates at the crossing, which was the site of an accident on March 14. That crash killed three teens and critically injured another.

A couple living next to the train tracks said they heard the loud sound and knew exactly what it was. Paulette Smith said she ran outside to help. She saw one man had gotten out of the truck. The driver appeared unconscious.

Smith said she is not surprised another crash has happened at the same site. She said she often sees cars try to beat the train at the intersection.

"If people don't stop trying to beat this train, I'm liable to go after them," she said. "It's scary, very scary."

Gates had already been approved at this location and have followed the timeline closely since then. On Wednesday, July 29 WAVE 3 News was there when Councilman Steve Magre held a meeting to update neighbors. Norfolk Southern may now have up to a year to install the gates.

"Here's two more accidents since they said the train gates were going up," Smith said.

"It makes me feel upset because the gates are not up," her neighbor, Christy Eden, said Monday.

We are waiting to hear from Norfolk Southern and the Transportation Cabinet to find out if the installation of the gates will be expedited.
