Hopkinsville teen dies after being struck by football equipment

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Hopkinsville High School student died Thursday after a piece of heavy equipment fell on his head during football practice.
Jayvon Corey Quarles, 17, of Hopkinsville was helping move a large heavy piece of metal football equipment at the practice field at Hopkinsville Middle School when the equipment accidentally fell and struck Quarles in the head, Hopkinsville police said in a news release.
The accident happened just before 4 on Thursday.
He was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center where he was pronounced dead as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
The incident is under investigation.
