LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville will unveil a major athletics project on Friday, the school announced in a press release.
Jonathan Blue, a member of the school's Board of Trustees, tweeted Thursday night that UofL will undertake a $55 million project to expand the football stadium, including field-level suites and improved fan club facilities among other improvements.
Blue said athletics director Tom Jurich made the announcement at a dinner for major donors on Thursday.
The university has an announcement scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m at the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex, featuring head football coach Bobby Petrino.
In June, Jurich spoke about the possibility of a stadium upgrade saying, "We want to do it first class, because we want to stay the way the stadium is and the way we always do business."
"I do not just want to bowl it in with a bunch of bleachers. Well, we'd obviously go to the north end zone and work from there out, but I've got to do a lot of work on that facility, the Schnellenberger, we got to redo that and update that for Bobby and get that going," Jurich said.
