LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - WAVE 3 News' generous viewers donated nearly $15,000 on Friday for Supporting Heroes, which provides funds for the families of public safety personnel killed in the line of duty.
The Louisville-based group has helped families all over WAVE Country. In order to keep Supporting Heroes in a position to continue those efforts, WAVE 3 News held a telethon on the 14th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Supporting Heroes aims to provide at least $3,000 in emergency funds to cover a family's immediate financial needs in the wake of a line-of-duty death. After that, the organization gives each family enough money to pay their bills until state or federal benefits arrive.
In many cases, the donations amount to more than $50,000 per family over a year or two following a death, according to Eric Johnson, the director of Supporting Heroes.
WAVE 3 News would like to thank everyone who donated to this very worthy cause.
