LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A new free app is now available that promises to keep you in the know with what's happening around Louisville.

The Do502 app hit the Apple app store Sept. 15, says Do502 owner, managing partner Jeffrey Smith.

"It's the ultimate discovery platform to find out what's happening in Louisville," said Smith.

Do502 launched October 2014 with the goal of promoting local events, restaurants, music, and more to residents in the Louisville Metro.

Smith says Do502 can better do that now with the addition of the mobile app.

"The city has been hungry for something like this," he said.

Before the app, Do502 had a notable presence on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram -- gaining big success with the hashtag #HowWeLou.

Smith points out that the idea behind the app is not only to raise awareness about what's happening right in your own backyard, but also about what's happening across town.

"You can sit here and go through and it will show you each thing happening in each neighborhood," he said.

Events at the top of the list are the most popular events of the day -- making it easier to find the crowd.

You can also RSVP to events and share which events you'll be attending to your friends with the app.

The Do502 app is a part of a network of more than a dozen other 'Do Stuff' apps in 16 other cities across the country.

Smith says the launch of the app will only strengthen the growing 'local' movement in the city.

"People are so proud of the city they want to embrace things that are local," he said.

The app was beta tested for three months ahead of its launch.

A version available for Android phones is currently in the works.
