LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Shepherdsville woman is facing a second degree charge of cruelty to animals after, police say, she left a puppy unattended in her car for about an hour, which led to the dog's death.

According to a police report Brooke Summers, 25, left her 6-month-old Chihuahua tied to a bucket inside her vehicle while she was away for approximately one hour Wednesday. At some point while Summers was gone the dog jumped out of the passenger side window. Unfortunately the tether tied to the dog's collar was not long enough to reach the ground and it died of apparent asphyxiation.

The case was investigated by Louisville Metro Animal Services.
