LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Separate traffic stops made by an Indiana State Police trooper and his K-9 partner ended with the arrests of two people on drug charges in separate cases.

The first arrest happened on the afternoon of Oct. 10 after Trooper Zach Smith stopped a Dodge Ram pickup on US 150 near Paoli Pike in Floyd County. Smith stopped the vehicle for a violation, but became suspicious. That's when Smith had Riggs, his K-9, search around the vehicle. Riggs alerted Smith to the possibility of drugs in the truck. During a search of the truck Smith found marijuana and controlled substances.

The driver, Leslie K. Holmes, 44, of Louisville, KY, was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substances and maintaining a common nuisance. Jail records show Holmes was released from the Floyd County Jail on Oct. 13.

The other arrest happened in Crawford County after Smith stopped a car being driven by John J. Bickerest, 30, of Jasper, IN, for a violation on I-64. After Riggs indicated the possible presence of drugs, a search by Smith found crystal meth, heroin in the car and with drug paraphernalia in the car.

Bickerest was booked into the Crawford County Jail and is awaiting his initial court appearance.
