PRESTONSBURG, KY (WAVE) – An officer is recovering after he was shot on Tuesday during a foot pursuit in Prestonsburg, KY.

Kentucky State Police said Prestonsburg police officers initiated a vehicle pursuit in the Floyd County, KY community. The pursuit led to a home on Abbott Creek, where Robert Powers, 20, of Auxier, continue to flee police on foot.

When confronted by officers, Powers refused to comply with their verbal commands. An officer then deployed his Taser, which was not effective. Powers continue to ignore officers' commands and produced a firearm and shot Officer Adam Dixon, according to KSP  Officers returned fire.

Powers then barricaded himself inside a residence. Troopers from Post 9 in Pikeville and the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team were able to locate and arrest Powers inside the home.

Powers was taken to Highlands Regional Medical Center where he is being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Dixon was airlifted from the scene. His condition is considered stable.
