LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The opening of the closed ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South has been rescheduled and will now open on Monday along with the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge, officials confirmed.

The Abraham Lincoln Bridge is expected to open to traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday.

Interstate 65 North traffic will shift first. I-65 South traffic is expected to follow later in the month.

The new bridge will carry three lanes of northbound traffic, with the right lane a mandatory exit lane to Court Avenue in Jeffersonville. Later this month, two lanes of I-65 South traffic will move to the Lincoln Bridge. The shift will lead to additional traffic changes later in the month.

The first of those changes, the opening of the the closed ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South, was scheduled for 5 a.m. Sunday. The ramp will now open Monday morning.

A new flyover ramp providing direct access from US 31 North to I-65 North opened to traffic overnight Sunday. The ramp, which has been under construction since summer 2014, now provides a direct connection to I-65 North. During construction, drivers had to take a detour through Jeffersonville to the 10th Street ramp to access I-65 North.

Before the bridge opens to traffic on Monday, the public had a chance to get an up-close look at it. Jeffersonville and Louisville Metro police estimate 40,000 to 50,000 people attended the Walk The Bridge festivities on Saturday.

The bridge circuit in all, including the Court Avenue ramp, will be about one and a half miles.
