LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man is accused of stealing packages from other people's porches.

According to an arrest report, witnesses told police they saw Joseph Lee Carr, 48, walking with a package from a home in the 1400 block of Larchmont Avenue. They said he opened the package, stuffed the merchandise in his jacket, and threw the box in a nearby trash can. The box later was determined to have been shipped from Kohl's.

An officer stopped Carr at Central and Colorado Avenues, where he was carrying a Kohl's bag and Kohl's merchandise. Carr consented to a search, at which time the officer smelled marijuana, the report states. Carr admitted he had a joint in his sweater pocket.

In addition to the Kohl's merchandise, Carr was also in possession of a screen protector box and the corresponding receipt, which indicated it had been delivered to another home in the 1400 block of Larchmont. The officer also found a Hot Wheels toy box in Carr's possession, but he did not have a receipt for it. Police are not sure where the box came from.

Police said Carr has a history of mail theft.

He is charged with theft of mail matter, two counts of possession of stolen mail, and possession of marijuana.
