LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's no secret; children can get a bit wilder as Christmas draws nearer.
But taking them where the wild things are could offer both an attraction and a distraction.
This weekend and next, the Louisville Zoo's Santa Safari blends traditions with a little learning to balance out the snacks and Christmas cookies.
"Keeps 'em busy," said Patty Pike, whose brood of fourteen includes her husband, their grown children and spouses and six grandchildren.
"They make ornaments, they get a treat -- it's just go, go, go," she said.
Safari includes a visit from Santa, cookies and story time from Mrs. Claus, caroling with Santa's helpers, and a learning journey through the Zoo with ten stops or Passport stations.
Sessions are held at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Sunday and on Dec. 19 and 20.
Tickets are $20.95 for adults and $11 for children, or $15.95 and $8.50 if your family has a Zoo membership.
