Police to citizens: No midnight gunfire

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's a New Year's tradition that can be deadly and one that police you should not doing.

Many people traditionally fire guns at midnight to celebrate the start of the New Year. Police on both sides of the river want to remind everyone that what goes up must come down. A bullet can reach such a high point that it's still lethal falling back to Earth.

Firing a gun into the air in Indiana could land you in jail on a felony charge of criminal recklessness. In Kentucky, you could face arrest on a wanton endangerment charge.
