Caught On Video: Truck fire on Lincoln Bridge

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A pickup truck was ablaze on the Lincoln Bridge during the lunchtime rush Friday.

Sullivan University video producer Aaron Hutchings just happened to be on the bridge and captured the huge orange flames on video (see above or tap here to play on a mobile device).

He told WAVE3.com he was driving north on the bridge before 1 p.m. when he saw the flames in the bed of the pickup truck, with its passengers trying to motion to drivers to move over a lane.

"He was waving people over because they were afraid it was going to blow," Hutchings said.

Hutchings said he was surprised at how well traffic continued to move despite the obvious distraction, on a wet road no less.

"I was really impressed with how well things were moving," he said, adding that the pickup truck had just pulled off to the side moments earlier. "No police or anybody had gotten there yet. It had just happened."

Louisville Fire and Rescue officials said a crew responded and had the fire out quickly, adding that no one was injured.

It's not clear what caused the fire, but this story will be updated online and on WAVE 3 News tonight at 5 p.m.
