Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver identified as homeless man
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Jefferson County Coroner's Office is requesting the public's help locating the family of a homeless man who was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
The man, identified as 51-year-old Calvin E. Watkins, was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was found in the 2100 block of Emerson Avenue at Bardstown Road in the Highlands just after 6 a.m. on Sunday. He died of blunt force trauma.
There were no witnesses and investigators have been unable to determine how long Watkins lay in the street before he was found.
Because of Watkins' injuries and the location of his body, police believe he was walking eastbound on Emerson when he was hit.
Investigators said the suspect vehicle may be light blue with a possibly cracked or shattered windshield.
Anyone with information about the case should call the Louisville Metro Police Department's tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
Anyone who can help locate Watkins' next of kin should call the coroner's office at 502-574-0123.
