Woman rescued from fire in Portland neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman was rescued from burning home in the Portland neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the 1800 block of West Main Street at about 12:50 a.m. They saw heavy smoke coming from the house.

A man was able to get out of the house before crews arrived. He told firefighters there was a woman trapped inside.

"They got to the second floor, found the lady and brought her outside. She was treated and released on the scene. We didn't transport anyone," Lt. Col. Jeff Botner said.

Botner said the fire started in the center of the house and seemed suspicious in nature. Investigators were interviewing a person of interest.

There was heavy smoke damage throughout the home.

Botner also said the smoke detectors were not working.
