Report: 3 dead, about a dozen injured in Winchester apartment fire

WINCHESTER, KY (WAVE) - Three people were killed in an apartment fire early Friday morning in Clark County, KY, according to WLEX-TV in Lexington.

The Clark County Fire Department told the station that about a dozen people were taken to hospitals with injuries that included burns, smoke inhalation and broken bones. Several people had to jump from the second floor to escape.

Two people were found dead on the scene. Another died later at a hospital.

Firefighters told WLEX that 10 apartments were destroyed.

The fire, which started about 1:15 Friday morning at B&P Apartments on Springmist Lane in Winchester, has been extinguished, but the scene is still active.

Residents told WLEX the building did not have working smoke detectors.
