LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - If you're running behind and feeling stressed out today, give meditation a try.
The Cleveland Clinic just released a year-long study that says meditation reduces stress at work.
Researchers developed an online stress management program at a busy corporate call center to test their theory. Participants used the relaxation technique four times a week and said after eight weeks, they had more energy and weren't as stressed out.
Several people also said they slept better and lost weight. By the end of the study, most employees said they felt less stressed.
Still not convinced? The Mayo Clinic says meditation also can improve your emotional well-being. It helps people focus on what's happening now, shuts out negative emotions and increases self-awareness.
Some doctors suggest the long-term impact of meditation also can help people who suffer from certain illnesses like cancer, depression, heart disease, high blood pressure and asthma.
There are several different types of meditation, from guided and mantra meditation, to mindfulness meditation. Click here for a list of other types of meditation and ways to relax.
