LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Expanding the available pool of qualified workers will help attract and retain business in Kentucky.
A key piece of legislation will enable that to happen - the felony expungement bill - making it possible for people convicted of minor felony offenses to ask a court to vacate their conviction, and expunge their record. The bill does offer protection for employers.
We encourage the Senate to approve Bill 298 and applaud the Senate Judiciary Committee for passing it after cutting the number of non-violent offenses allowable for expungement, and reducing the waiting period following completion of the sentence, from ten to five years. Both changes make the bill even stronger.
Giving hope to tens of thousands of Kentuckians who have made restitution and want to start over is the right thing to do for these folks, and for the Commonwealth.
