LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An arrest has been made in the death of a 5-month-old child.
Leon Montgomery III, 24, was taken into custody around 6 p.m. Wednesday and charged with murder and criminal abuse in the death of Noah Ballard-Jones, according to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell.
Noah was taken from a home in the 2200 block of Date Street on March 14. He died of March 16 at Kosair Children's Hospital.
Deputy Coroner James Wesley said the child suffered multiple blunt force injuries, describing them as "inflicted trauma." Montgomery's arrest report says Noah had 13 rib fractures, as well as multiple fractures to an arm and a leg and a fractured skull. The report says the injuries were "in various states of healing."
The report also says Montgomery admitted to being the primary caregiver for Noah when he suffered the fatal skull fracture. It also says Montgomery did not seek medical attention of render aid on three occasions when it was apparent Noah was in need prior to the fatal incident.
During his arraignment the court entered a not guilty plea for Montgomery and kept his bond at $500,000 cash. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 4 and a public defender was appointed to represent Montgomery.
The relationship between Montgomery and the child has not been released.
