LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Preparations are underway to gear up for 27th Thunder Over Louisville.

The massive fireworks display and airshow is set for Saturday, April 23.

Inside the command center at the Galt House, the behind the scenes Thunder Over Louisville stage is getting set.

For the first time, The Louisville Orchestra will be the soundtrack.

"Wait till you hear it, because it is amazing. They recorded a little more than 50 pieces of music," show producer Wayne Hettinger said. "They recorded three and a half minutes or so of each tune and then gave that to us so we can edit and build our show from all these different selections."

Still deciding where to watch? Tickets are still available at restaurants along the river, like Rocky's and Buckhead Mountain Grill in Jeffersonville. Most seats in or outside will cost you up to $180.

New this year, Rocky's Rockin' on the River will be held in the parking lot with several live musical acts including Corey Cox.

"They will be performing in the tent and that's the $50 a person and it will be a great day, it's going to be a great show," Rocky's General Manager Lisa Hays said.

Children can get in the tent for $25. The ticket includes free drinks. Food will be available for purchase.

"When it starts getting nicer outside everybody wants to be together outside, listening to music and having a good time," Hays said.

For the first time in a while, there will be a free concert on the Riverstage. Country music newcomer Chris Lane will headline and take the stage right before the big show.

"At 8:30 p.m. we will go live with the Thunder Over Louisville feed provided from the Kentucky Derby Festival and of course you have the beautiful backdrop of Louisville in the background and you'll be able to hear the music and see the fireworks," Riverstage Special Events Director Sara Simpson said.

If you plan to make this your Thunder spot, you'll want to get there early to get a seat. You're encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and a cooler. The airshow will start at 3 p.m. and music at 5 p.m.
