7 new faces to be inducted into Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A new batch of athletes will be inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame.
It's a way of celebrating the hard work and training they put into building their career. It's also about showing appreciation for people and landmarks that were integral to athletic success.
This year's class of inductees include Darel Carrier, Kyra Elzy, Phillip Haywood, Scott Davenport, Shaun Alexander, Joe Utley and the Lake Side Swim Club. All inductees will receive bronze plaques that will be hung on the walls of Freedom Hall.

"The Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame, for those of you who do not know, is the premiere, the elite hall of fame in Kentucky. It doesn't limit itself to one sport, it doesn't even limit itself to playing sports. You can be a contributor," Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame President Jim Ellis said.
Carrier, one of the inductees, was at a press conference about the Hall of Fame inductees held at the KFC Yum! Center on Monday. He shared a little bit about how his basketball career started - shooting in cans into a goal that was 5 feet high.
"Went on to play high school basketball, scored 3,148 points in high school, averaged over 30 points a game for four years in high school, led the state for the last two years in high school," Carrier said.
There will be a banquet to induct these icons into the Hall of Fame on June 2. This will be the Hall of Fame's 53rd anniversary.
