LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Students graduating from Bellarmine University began a tradition during their graduation Saturday.

This was the first commencement without the school's long-time president Joseph McGowan, who passed away March 1.

Along with diplomas the university handed out "McGowan Medals" to the graduates.
