LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Traffic on the Clark Memorial Bridge will soon be affected by inspectors.
An in-depth inspection is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 31 on the bridge, which carries US 31 across the Ohio River between Louisville and Jeffersonville, IN.
To accommodate necessary equipment to perform the inspection, lane closures will be required.
One lane of traffic will be closed in the evenings on May 31 to June 3 and again from June 5 through 9. These lane closures will take place from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following day.
Some lane closures will be necessary on Interstate 64 while crews inspect underneath the Clark Memorial Bridge's Kentucky approach. Two lanes of I-64 West will be closed on Wednesday, June 8 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. Crews will move to I-64 East on Thursday, June 9 with two lanes closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day. These lane closures are in addition to the single-lane closure on the Clark Memorial Bridge during those evenings.
Also, during the week of June 13, bridge inspectors will be climbing the steel truss during daytime hours to inspect the upper chords. No lane closures will be necessary, but some of their equipment will be staged on the sidewalks along the bridge.
Palmer Engineering of Winchester, KY will perform the inspection, which is conducted every two years. The inspection will be completed in mid-June, weather permitting.
