LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - FedEx is growing and bringing more jobs to WAVE Country.

FedEx Ground opened a new 300,000 square-foot distribution center on Plantside Drive on Wednesday. With it comes around 300 new workers and even more down the road.

The new center is part of a global plan to add 11 major hubs and expand another 500 facilities over the past decade as the ground operations number of packages handled has doubled.

FedEx District Managing Director Pat Super said, "Our plans are still to grow about another 30 to 40 of these throughout our network over the next four or five years, due to the capacity and due to the demand. So these facilities are becoming defiantly becoming the crown jewel of our FedEx ground network."

The expansion will also speed up FedEx ground deliveries in WAVE Country to a larger area.
