As for the city of Louisville, Fischer said he hopes the Louisville Orchestra Waterfront series will become an iconic Independence Day performance known across the nation.

"Of course with the Louisville Orchestra, with Teddy Abrams, put this challenge out that lets make this event authentically Louisville, that when you think of different major 4th of July events around the country - whether it's in Boston or other places or you think about signature events - that's what we wanted to design her in Louisville," said Fischer.

Saying he appreciates what kind of role the orchestra plays in the community Fischer also said the Waterfront series is often the first time people encounter orchestral performances.

The celebration is not just the performance. It will include a whole day of festivities on July 3 as well as July 4. The performance by the orchestra will take place at 8 p.m. A fireworks display sponsored by the Louisville Bats and accompanied by the Louisville Orchestra will top off the evening.
