GREEN COUNTY. KY (WAVE) – A volunteer firefighter was airlifted to a Louisville hospital after being injured in a motor vehicle accident in Green County.

A preliminary investigation showed Jared Kelly, 21, who volunteers for the Greensburg Fire Department, was driving a 1995 Ford firetruck on Columbia Highway when he left the roadway and overturned on Edmonton Road around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Kelly was responding to a report of a business fire on J.T. Jefferies Road at the time of the crash.

Johnson Supporting Heroes spokesman Eric Johnson said Kelly's injuries were considered to be serious, but non-life threatening. He is being treated at University of Louisville Hospital.

Kelly was the only person involved in the crash.

Kentucky State Police said speed did appear to be a factor.
