LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A teenager is in the hospital after she was shot in the Park DuValle neighborhood.
The shooting happened in the 3700 block of Stratton Avenue around 11:10 p.m. Monday, according to MetroSafe.
Family members say 13-year-old Kahonna Morris was inside a home when people outside were involved in a shootout. Morris' mother said a bullets hit the home and stuck Morris in the back of her leg.
"She jumped up, said Morris' mother Dekonna Vaughn. "She said I didn't even know I was shot."
"She fell to the ground," said Morris' aunt Rochelle Mitchell. "She looked and my cousin, who is a nurse, and she said oh my God, she said she seen the hole."
Morris was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for treatment. Mitchell sent WAVE 3 News a photo of Morris' x-ray from the hospital. You can see how close the bullet was to her bone.
"They are gonna leave the bullet in because it would cause too much damage to take it out," said Vaughn.
Morris is expected to walk again. The teen is from Frankfort and was visiting family in Louisville over the summer break.
