Bardstown man found shot to death near Springfield, KY

WASHINGTON COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - The shooting death of a Bardstown man near Springfield is under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

According to a KSP news release, the Washington County Sheriff's Department was contacted by KSP about 10 a.m. on June 14 regarding the discovery of an unknown man lying inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified at  Yul A. Rayford, 51, was found alive by a landowner off Bloomfield Road about one-and-a-half miles north of Springfield. Rayford was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital where he died at 10:20 p.m.

Rayford was last seen by a family member at his home in Bardstown about 7 a.m. on June 14.

A preliminary autopsy report indicates Rayford died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Police did not recover a weapon from the scene.

No one is in custody.
