ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) – A firefighter was injured while working to put out flames inside a McDonald's in Elizabethtown.
The fire was reported at the McDonald's located at 1700 North Dixie Highway around 5 p.m. Thursday.
An Elizabethtown Police official on the scene said one firefighter was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion.
All of the employees and customers who were inside of the McDonald's were able to exit safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but a customer alerted employees to a smoldering in a pile of mulch outside the McDonald's.
Employees said they tried to put out the fire with water and a fire extinguisher but smoke ended up coming inside through the walls of the store.
One of the store managers, Justin Yager, helped get everyone outside safely.
