SELLERSBURG, IN (WAVE) – Just a couple days after an 85-year-old woman is carjacked at a Cracker Barrel, police found the stolen vehicle and named a suspect in the case.

Investigators are searching for Malachi Looney, 33, of Sellersburg, in connection to the case.

Police found the 2001 Buick Century at the Court Avenue Thorntons on Court in Jeffersonville Wednesday morning. It was towed to the Indiana State Police post in Sellersburg and was searched for new evidence.

"He's a coward, he preyed on the elderly and his day will come," Sellersburg Police Chief Russ Whelan said of the suspect.

Whelan said they are one step closer to catching the man caught on camera stealing the woman's car. The incident happened Monday right after she pulled into Cracker Barrel in Sellersburg.

"She was very shaken up at the time and her wrists both, he didn't throw her to the ground, but when he grabbed her, she's 85, and when he grabbed her wrists, both are really swollen and bruised," Whelan said.

Tuesday, a homeowner in Germantown discovered the victim's purse dumped in his trash can on Lydia Street.

"He actually didn't call us, he got the purse out found the ID and contacted the victim and then the victim called us," Whelan said.

Wednesday, an even bigger clue, investigators find the woman's Buick parked at a Jeffersonville Thorntons.

Not far away on Maple Street, a woman who asked that her identity be withheld, noticed a police investigation unfolding right outside of her 91-year-old mother's home. She asked an officer what
was going on.

"He said 'do you watch news?' And I said 'yes, I do' and he said 'did you hear what happened in Sellersburg?' I said 'yes, I did. At the Cracker Barrel?' He said 'yes' and I said 'that's the man you are looking for' and he said 'yes,'" she said.

No luck on this street, but the search continues.

Meanwhile, the victim's car was taken to the Indiana Police Post to be processed.

"I hope they do catch him," she said.

Along with the surveillance video, Sellersburg Police also released still pictures from a gas station prior to the car theft, but now say that's not their suspect. The man pictured contacted investigators
to say he was not involved. Detectives checked out his story and have cleared him.

"That's that wrong place, wrong time - what's the chance of being in the area wearing the exact same clothes, exact same descriptors as the guy that 10 minutes later carjacks an 85-year-old elderly woman," Whelan said.

Looney is described as a white man just under 6-foot-tall, with short or buzzed hair. Anyone with information about his location is asked to call police.
