LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Spike, the beloved tortoise who has become a staple in downtown Louisville, is eating again after surgery at the Shively Animal Clinic.
That, despite the fact that vets have now learned that the 125-pound Spike also suffered a broken pelvis when he was run over by a car last week. That's in addition to his damaged shell and other injuries.
Glenn Smith set up a gofundme page that brought in more than $7,000 for Spike's vet bills.
Saturday morning Smith went to the Shively Animal Clinic to provide the money for Spike's care.
"I had to put one of my dogs to sleep unexpectedly two weeks ago, so this is somewhat cathartic and therapeutic for me, and i just wanted to do whatever I could," he said.
Smith says he'll leave the gofundme page up in case others want to donate.
