LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Changes have been made to a plan for a downtown sewage tunnel that officials say will help prevent overflows into the Ohio River.
A Metropolitan Sewer District spokesman said the original plan created 10 years ago for Main Street has been moved. It will now run 150 underground, beneath Interstate 64, from Seventh Street to 12th Street.
The move will increase the cost from $63 million to $68 million.
The next step is to get permits and bids, with construction expected to start in about a year.
The basin project is part of an $850 million project ordered by the federal government to avoid overflows.
