Police said Thompson asked the clerk for cigarettes to buy, but when he realized that he was not going to get any Thompson threatened the clerk by saying he had a gun. Thompson pushed the clerk to the ground and took the cigarettes.

After surveillance photos of the robbery were released police said they received at least three tips identifying Thompson as the person involved. Following his arrest Thompson also told an officer taking him to jail that he had seen himself on news reports about the robbery.

Thompson is being held on a $25,000 cash bond at Louisville Metro Corrections.
