LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky's Attorney General Andy Beshear is reaching out to a Louisville rape victim who was awarded the second largest jury judgment this year.
Katya Estes was awarded $10 million after a jury found her grandfather guilty of rape and sexual assault.
During a criminal case in 2010, James Estes pleaded guilty to raping his granddaughter. His five year sentence was lowered to probation. He later spent 60 days in jail for violating it. No other time was served.

Displeased with the sentencing, Katya Estes and her lawyers filed a civil lawsuit against her grandfather years later. Katya Estes refused to agree on a settlement and the jury ultimately found her grandfather guilty on rape and sexual assault on July 13.
