Edwards had been arrested in April for assault during a domestic violence dispute with her boyfriend. According to a Glasgow Police Department citation Edwards was taken into custody on April 12 after officers were called to her home about a fight. When police arrived, Edwards was on the floor complaining of shoulder pain.

According to the report, Edwards' boyfriend told police he had a head injury that required stitches after he was struck by Edwards. Edwards told police she was shoved to the ground by her boyfriend and dislocated her shoulder. She told police the two were fighting for several days and he threatened to kill her.
